Junior Classes

Kyu Shin Do Aikido provides 3 dedicated children's classes per week, 2 of which only operate during term time. Our family-friendly policy allows parents and children to practise together in these classes. Parents training in these classes are required to be registered members. The only other adults apart from parents with children allowed to these classes will be Instructors and Assistant Instructors.

Our children's classes are supervised by Black Belt fully qualified instructors, who hold CNZ Coaching Certificate or similar and are first aid qualified. We aim to provide a safe, fun and structured environment for your child to learn in.

Children may join classes from the age of 8 upwards.

There are two fee structures for children 8 to 15 years

Registered Children - those who have made a commitment to learning aikido and want to progress through the grades must register and pay a monthly fee by automatic payment

Unregistered Children - those who are not interested in grading but want to get some of the other benefits of learning aikido or who just want to try it out for a while pay a single fee each term or part thereof.

Children can swap from unregistered to registered at the beginning of any term by paying their registration fee. Registration is a one time fee. Registered members do not pay for gradings and become eligible for seminar subsidies and other benefits of full membership. See our fees page for more details of the fee structure

Between the ages of 12 and 15 years a student has the option of training in the Children's classes or (subject to permission from the regular teacher of each class) in adults classes. To train in adult classes a student must be a registered club member. This transition must be made at the beginning of the term following the students 15th birthday.

Children learn the same syllabus as adults though some modification of technique is allowed for smaller hand size.

Children who are being bullied, who have learning or co-ordination difficulties or who do not enjoy competitive team sports may find aikido an activity they can enjoy and benefit from.

We have several club social events during the year which all club members and their families are welcome to attend.
